Lexus’s History

In 1989, Lexus launched its brand with two sedans, the LS 400 and the ES 250. The brand from that moment was committed to pursue perfection. After a single customer complaint came through, Lexus launched a special service campaign, earning the brand recognition as the new standard in personalized service. For the first year, thousands of dealerships were interested in becoming a Lexus franchise, but only 121 dealers were selected.

Two years after launching the brand, Lexus introduced an all-new ES 300 as well as the SC 300 and the SC 300 Sport coupes. In 1991, Lexus outsold both Mercedes-Benz and BMW to become the best-selling luxury import brand in the United States.

From 1993 to 1996, Lexus released the GS 300 luxury sport sedan, the second generation LS 400, the LX 450 and the ES 300. Over time, Lexus continued to design and release a number of luxury vehicles including hybrid vehicles, luxury SUVs and premium sedans.

2009 was a big year for the company as well, with the release of the all-new RX 350 and the RX 450h luxury utility vehicles, the IS 350C and the IS 250 C hard-top convertibles, and the of the second generation GS 460. This was the same year as the company’s 20th anniversary and the celebration of more than 1 million RX vehicles being sold in the United States.

In 2019, Lexus hit a huge milestone, selling their 10 millionth vehicle!
